The screened bottom board to fit the Thrive Hives was designed to allow for Integrated Pest Management. The included tray can be filled with a shallow layer of vegetable oil which will kill groomed off varroa mites and small hive beetle adults and larvae.  Also allows for good airflow in the warmer more humid climates.  The front can be blocked off by covering with a small board during the winter to reduce airflow.
