Smaller hives for smaller hands and smaller bee colonies.  Not only are Thrive Hives easier for children to manage, they are also easier for smaller bee colonies to manage.  Swarms caught in a tree are not always large colonies suitable for a ten frame standard-sized box.  Many swarms have virgin queens and are smaller in number. These fit well in a Thrive Hive because they can guard their small space easier and keep warm.  As the colonies grow, boxes can be added or frames can be moved into standard 8 or 10-frame boxes using the aluminum bar and zipties.  This makes Thrive Hives versatile and fabulous resource hives.
